The figure is impossible. With one weekly flight on an aircraft in the Embraer 190 family, the theoretical annual ceiling for scheduled traffic sits somewhere around eight thousand movements. The source turned out to be helenaairport.com, which belongs to Helena Regional Airport in Montana. The island's airport is at sthelenaairport.com. One word, and a figure roughly twenty-five times too large entered a research document with a working citation attached to it.
Two things about that are worth sitting with. First, the error was not an invented number. The number is real and the citation resolves. It simply describes a different continent, which is far harder to catch than fabrication because every automated hallucination check passes. Second, it happened inside a process built specifically to catch place confusion. If it gets through there, it is getting through everywhere.
What the territory itself contributes to the problem
It would be convenient to blame the retrieval systems entirely. The owned corpus makes their job harder in at least three ways.
The country-code domain sends a false signal. The .sh top-level domain belongs to Saint Helena. Read down the third column. Six of the eight are fixable from inside, and none needs a large budget. That is unusual, and it is the practical argument for doing this work at all in a market where nothing else about the economics is favourable.

The first is that disambiguation does not create demand.
