Reddit Is Where AI Assistants Go For Second Opinions
Ask ChatGPT or Perplexity which product to buy and it will often paraphrase a stranger on Reddit. That makes Reddit a channel worth being present in, and one where being caught faking it is expensive. This page explains how we work there, and lets you run the system yourself further down.
Short answer. Reddit marketing automation, done properly, means software handles discovery and drafting while a person decides what gets published. Arfadia works with technology partner AI Rush on a five stage pipeline: monitor, qualify, protect, draft, approve. The last stage is a human being, every time. There is no auto publish function in the system, which is a design decision rather than a limitation we are apologising for.
A note on these numbers, because the honest version matters more than the impressive version. Studies measure different things and produce very different figures. Profound's November 2025 study of 4 billion citations put Reddit at 3.11% of all citations, still the most cited single domain, and that study was produced together with Reddit. Semrush found Reddit referenced in 40.1% of AI answers in June 2025, a much larger looking number because the denominator is answers rather than citations. Semrush also tracked ChatGPT's Reddit citations falling from roughly 60% of responses in early August 2025 to about 10% by mid September 2025. Reddit visibility is valuable and genuinely unstable. Treat anyone quoting a single tidy percentage with suspicion.
What Reddit Marketing Automation Actually Means
The phrase covers two completely different products, and the difference is who presses publish.
Automation that publishes
- Software picks a thread, writes a reply, and posts it with no person in the loop
- Scales beautifully right up until the account is banned and the brand is named in a callout thread
- Directly violates Reddit policy, which prohibits automation used to manipulate a community
Automation that prepares
- Software does the slow, expensive work: finding threads, scoring them, screening risk, writing options
- A person reads the thread and the drafts, then approves, rewrites, or throws them out
- Scales the research, not the posting, which is the only part that was ever the bottleneck
We build the second one. If you want the first one, there are cheaper vendors and we would rather you knew that now than after a subreddit ban.
Why Both Obvious Approaches Fail On Reddit
Brands normally try one of two things before calling us. Both break for structural reasons, not for lack of effort. Understanding which one you already tried tells us where to start.
Doing it by hand
Fails on attendance, not on quality
A marketer is asked to monitor twenty subreddits and reply where relevant. It works for a fortnight. Then the good threads get missed because nobody was watching at 2am, the replies thin out as the novelty fades, and the person quietly stops. The work was never bad. It simply stopped happening.
Handing it to a posting bot
Fails loudly, and in public
Volume arrives immediately and so does the risk. In November 2025 the marketing firm Trap Plan published, then deleted, a case study boasting it had seeded around 100 organic looking posts and comments to promote a game across gaming subreddits. Reddit users found the post, archived it, and the story ran in Kotaku and PC Gamer. The firm's CEO apologised publicly.
Reddit is hunting this behaviour, not tolerating it
The platform published these enforcement figures itself in July 2026, and said it now uses language models to catch coordinated patterns older systems missed.
It escalates past platform rules into legal territory. When researchers at the University of Zurich ran undisclosed AI bot accounts in r/changemyview using invented personas, Reddit's chief legal officer called it wrong on both a moral and a legal level and pursued formal legal demands. That was an academic study, not even a brand campaign. Separately, the FTC Endorsement Guides treat undisclosed paid endorsements as deceptive and can hold an agency liable alongside the advertiser. An agency that offers you undisclosed persona posting is quietly selling you its own risk.

Run A Cycle Yourself Before You Talk To Us
Most agencies describe their process. Below is ours, running. Pick a scenario, press run, then open an opportunity and approve, edit, or reject a draft the way an operator would. Pay attention to the third scenario.
Run a monitoring cycle. Nothing publishes without you.
This is the same five stage pipeline we run for clients: monitor, qualify, protect, draft, approve. Pick a cycle below and step through it the way an operator would.
Monitor
Qualify
Protect
Draft
Approve
Choose a cycle above and press Run. Results appear here, including everything the guardrails threw out and why.
The Five Stages, In Plain Terms
What the demo above is doing, described properly. Each stage exists to remove a specific way this work goes wrong.
Monitor
Every six hours the system reads new posts and comments across your target subreddits and keyword set. Six hours is deliberate. It catches threads while replies still get read, without the request pattern of something hammering the platform every minute.
Qualify
Each candidate is scored on four things: how closely it matches your category, how active the discussion is, how recent it is, and whether that particular community has historically tolerated outside recommendations. Low scores never reach a human, which is what keeps the queue worth reading.
Protect
Guardrails run before any writing happens. Threads are rejected for being NSFW, deleted, locked, archived, too old, too thin on context, in the wrong subreddit for the intent, on a sensitive claim topic such as medical or income, or already evaluated in an earlier cycle. Your own exclusion registry is applied here.
Draft
Surviving threads get three response options that genuinely differ in angle, not three rewordings of one answer. Each arrives with the reasoning behind it and risk flags, including whether a brand mention appears and whether that mention needs a disclosure line.
Approve
Everything waits for a person. Approve as written, edit then approve, or reject. Rejections are recorded with a reason so the same thread does not come back. This is the stage a volume bot does not have, and the reason the other four are safe to automate.
And the stage that produces nothing
A cycle where no thread survives is a normal outcome, not an outage. Volume figures in any proposal we send are a ceiling on what the system may surface, never a quota it must fill. Forcing a brand into a conversation to hit a number is the exact behaviour that gets brands banned.
What You Actually Receive Each Month
Not a folder of content. A record you can audit, which is a different deliverable.
Opportunity log
Every thread the system found, with its score across relevance, activity, recency, and community fit. You can see the shape of the conversation in your category, including the weeks it went quiet.
Rejection log with reasons
The threads that were blocked and the specific guardrail that blocked each one. This is the part that tells you whether the screening is real.
Draft history
All three options generated per opportunity, the reasoning attached to each, the risk flags raised, and which version was finally posted after editing.
Approval trail
Who approved what and when. If a reply is ever questioned internally or by a moderator, you can reconstruct the decision instead of guessing.
Community health notes
Which subreddits opened up, which tightened their rules, and which moved onto your exclusion registry during the period, with the rule change that caused it.
AI visibility context
Where relevant, how your category is being answered by AI assistants, tracked with PromptWatch and read alongside your GEO program rather than in isolation.
Not Every AI Engine Treats Reddit The Same Way
This matters for expectation setting. If your buyers lean on one assistant more than another, the value of Reddit presence changes with it. Every figure below carries its source, and the last tab is the one we would want to read first if we were you.
Perplexity
Perplexity leans on live community discussion more heavily than any other assistant we track, and Reddit is its single largest source domain. It also matters disproportionately for Indonesian buyers, because Perplexity's share of assistant use here runs far above its global share. That gap is one reason we treat Reddit as an Indonesia relevant channel rather than a purely Western one.
What we do about it: Perplexity reads recent threads, so cadence beats volume. Steady monthly participation in the right communities outperforms a burst of activity that then goes quiet.
Reddit share and Indonesia share: Arfadia AI Citation Rate Report 2026, drawing on Statcounter data. Perplexity also sued Reddit over scraping in October 2025, after which third party trackers reported its Reddit citation share dropping sharply, a reminder that these relationships are commercial as well as technical.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT uses Reddit heavily to understand a topic and gauge consensus, but visible attribution is a separate matter. Our research found the mention volume needed to move ChatGPT is far higher on Reddit than on Quora, which is why we treat Reddit as a consensus building channel rather than a citation farming one. Ahrefs reached a similar conclusion from a separate dataset, finding ChatGPT retrieves Reddit far more often than it names it.
What we do about it: We write for the reader, not the crawler. Replies that a human finds genuinely useful are the same replies that survive in a model's picture of your category, whether or not a link appears.
Mention thresholds: Arfadia AI Citation Rate Report 2026. Citation swing from roughly 60% of responses in early August 2025 to about 10% by mid September 2025: Semrush three month tracking study.
Google AI Overviews and AI Mode
Google's AI answers do not simply reflect the classic rankings, which is the single most useful thing to understand here. Nearly half of AI Overview citations come from pages outside the organic top five, so a page you cannot rank can still be quoted, and a community thread can outrank your own site inside an AI answer. Brand mention volume across the open web, Reddit included, is the strongest single predictor of citation that has been measured.
What we do about it: We read this alongside your GEO program. Your own pages supply the authoritative source, Reddit supplies the peer consensus, and neither substitutes for the other.
Citations from outside the organic top 5: BrightEdge. Brand mention correlation of r=0.664: Ahrefs. Both via Arfadia AI Citation Rate Report 2026.
Three things we will not claim
That a number of posts buys a number of citations. Nobody has established that. The studies looking closest at it disagree with each other by an order of magnitude, depending entirely on what each one counts as a citation. Any agency quoting you a conversion rate here is quoting you a guess.
That the effect is durable once achieved. Cited sources rotate 40% to 60% month to month. Presence has to be maintained, which is an argument for a modest programme that runs for years rather than a burst that looks impressive for one quarter.
That Reddit welcomes any of this. The platform actively removes content it judges to be manufactured for AI visibility and revoked close to 2 million inauthentic votes per day in July 2026. The only version of this work with a future is the version that would survive a moderator reading it closely.

Three Ways To Approach Reddit, Compared Honestly
Including where our approach is the weaker choice.
| Consideration | In house, by hand | Generic posting bot | Arfadia x AI Rush |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coverage | Whatever one person can watch | Everything, unfiltered | Target subreddits every 6 hours |
| Who publishes | A person | The software | A person, always |
| Ban exposure | Low | High, and often permanent | Low, screened before drafting |
| Consistency over 12 months | Usually fades by month three | Consistent until banned | Maintained, including quiet months |
| Auditability | Whatever got written down | None worth reading | Full opportunity and rejection log |
| Cost per usable reply | High, mostly staff hours | Very low, until remediation | Moderate |
| Speed to visible volume | Slow | Immediate | Slow and deliberately capped |
| Better choice when | You have one passionate expert with real time | Never, in our view | You need this to run for years without incident |
Read the last row properly. If you have a founder or engineer who genuinely enjoys being on Reddit and has hours to spend there, their replies will beat ours, because they have the lived expertise the platform rewards. Our service is for the far more common situation where that person does not exist, or exists but cannot sustain it past the first quarter.
Where This Fits, And Where It Does Not
Reddit rewards categories where people compare options in public and in detail. Consumer technology is the clearest example, which is why the demo above uses it.
Poor fits, stated plainly. Categories where nearly every claim needs legal review before publication will find the approval cycle slower than the opportunity window. Categories whose relevant communities ban vendor participation outright leave nothing for the system to work with. Purely local businesses with no active community discussing them are better served by search and social channels. We establish which of these applies to you during the audit, and we will say so.
This Is A Layer, Not A Standalone Channel
Reddit presence on its own produces community goodwill and not much else. It earns its place when it sits on top of work that is already running.
Generative Engine Optimization
Your own pages give AI assistants something authoritative to cite. Reddit gives them the peer consensus they look for alongside it. The two answer different halves of the same question.
SEO
Reddit threads rank in classic search too, often above brand pages for comparison queries. Knowing which threads rank for your category changes which ones are worth joining.
Online Reputation Management
Reddit is where complaints go to be found later. Monitoring surfaces them early, and the same approval discipline governs how a brand answers criticism in public.
User Generated Content
Creator content and community replies reinforce each other. What real customers say on Reddit tells you which product angles actually convince people.
Content Marketing
The questions the system finds unanswerable in a comment are a briefing document. Recurring ones become articles worth writing.
B2B Marketing
For considered purchases, buyers research in communities long before they fill in a form. Presence there shortens nothing, but absence costs you the shortlist.
Delivered With AI Rush
Two companies, two jobs, no ambiguity about which is which.
Arfadia holds the relationship
Contract, strategy, account management, final review, and accountability for what appears in public sit with PT Arfadia Digital Indonesia. You deal with us.
AI Rush supplies the engine
Our technology partner provides the discovery, scoring, screening, and drafting system that powers stages one to four of the pipeline.
Stage five stays human
Approval sits with your team or with Arfadia's managed service. Neither company can publish to Reddit without a person deciding to.
AI Rush is named here as a technology partner. We do not publish claims about their corporate history or scale on this page, because those are their facts to state rather than ours. What Working With Arfadia Looks Like
Reddit marketing automation is a new service with no client history yet, so we are not going to invent one. This is a client speaking about how we work.
Why Run This With Arfadia
The channel is new for us. The discipline behind it is not.
Since 2008
A full service digital agency, not a tool with a sales team. Reddit sits inside a program rather than being sold as a standalone subscription.
GEO pioneer in Indonesia since 2023
We started measuring AI citation behaviour before most agencies accepted it mattered. Reddit strategy came out of that measurement, not out of a trend report.
Published, citable research
Our AI Citation Rate Report 2026 is indexed on Google Scholar with a permanent DOI. The figures on this page trace back to it, so you can check our reasoning.
This was on our roadmap first
A systematic Reddit and Quora answer strategy appears as a Phase 3 item in that published report, before this service existed. We are executing our own stated plan, not chasing a channel.
Forbes Agency Council member
Alongside Google Partner, Meta Business Partner, TikTok Agency Partner status, and ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 certification.
We tell you when to walk away
The audit ends with a straight answer about fit, including no. An agency that has never talked a prospect out of a service is not screening its clients either.
Find Out Whether Reddit Is Worth Your Time
The free visibility audit maps where your category is discussed, which of those communities allow disclosed vendor replies, and what a first cycle would surface. If the answer is that this is a poor fit, we will tell you that. Contact our team to get started.
