About GEO and AEO in Pune, India

Generative Engine Optimization is about being named and cited inside a generated answer. That is a different outcome from holding a position in a list of links, and it is measured differently.

Ranking and Citation Are Two Different Outcomes

A page can hold the first organic position and never appear inside an AI answer. A page sitting on the third page of results can be cited repeatedly. These are two separate selection processes, and treating a rank report as evidence of citation performance is the single most common error in this market. Every metric on this page keeps them apart. Where a vendor shows you a rankings chart to prove AI visibility, they have answered a different question from the one you asked.

The gap matters more in India than in most markets because query shape drives AI exposure so heavily. In the MIT panel that includes India, question-style queries returned an AI answer roughly 60% of the time, statements around 37%, and navigational queries only about 12%. A buyer typing your company name into a browser bar is in the 12% bucket. A buyer asking an assistant to shortlist suppliers for their market is in the 60% bucket, and that is the moment this service is built for.

Where Your Buyer Asks Matters More Than Where You Rank

For a Pune company selling abroad, the operative question is not how visible you are on the Indian results page. It is whether a procurement lead in Singapore, Jakarta, Dubai, Frankfurt or Chicago gets your name when they ask an assistant about your category, and whether the sources behind that answer actually support what is being said about you. Those are two separate checks, and we run them separately: is the brand named, and is the claim attached to it accurate.

We are direct about the limits of the evidence here. No public controlled study measures whether the same prompt asked from Pune retrieves different source nationalities than the same prompt asked from London, and nobody has measured citation outcomes for Marathi-language queries. Those are open questions, not settled facts, so the answer is a controlled test against your own category rather than a claim borrowed from somebody else's market.

One Buyer Question, Different Sources Behind Each Answer

Assistants do not draw on the same pool of sources. The same question about your category can be answered from editorial coverage in one engine and from trade or reference material in another. Optimising against a single engine leaves the rest of your buyer's toolkit uncovered.

Source preference differs by assistant, and citation share for a given source type has been observed shifting sharply within weeks. We deliberately publish no single cross-engine share figure here, because any such number describes one prompt set at one moment, not your market.

Illustrative of the source-divergence pattern documented across the cross-validated research behind this page, not a captured screenshot of any specific query. Your own panel is what produces your numbers.

What Google Actually Requires, and What Gets Sold Instead

Much of what is sold as AI-search optimisation has been publicly contradicted by Google's own documentation. This is worth reading before you buy anything labelled GEO, from us or from anyone else.

Search Console Now Reports Generative AI Performance

Google announced a Generative AI performance report in Search Console on 3 June 2026, rolling out to a subset of sites. Anyone still telling you that AI visibility cannot be measured in Google's own tooling is working from outdated information. Citation still does not equal a click, so we continue to report visibility and traffic as separate layers.

Google Warns About Tools Claiming Internal Metrics

Google's own guidance tells site owners to be wary of third-party tools that promise ranking success or claim to use internal Google metrics. We hold ourselves to the same standard: no proprietary score stands in for evidence, and every reported result traces back to raw responses, cited URLs and a dated run log you can inspect.

There is no credible India-specific figure for AI Overview prevalence, and no credible India-specific measurement of publisher traffic loss caused by AI answers. Figures in circulation for both come from other markets. This page does not restate them as Indian numbers.

Our GEO and AEO Services in Pune, India

Built around a fixed prompt panel, measured per engine and per destination market, reported so it can be repeated.

Frozen Prompt Panel by Buyer Market

A versioned set of buyer-intent prompts written from your actual buying jobs, separated by destination country and buyer role, with inclusion rules documented and a baseline captured before any intervention.

Prompts are never swapped out after a weak result. The panel is the contract, and the change log is part of the report.

Multi-Platform Citation Tracking

ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Perplexity, Claude and Copilot, selected from where your buyers actually are rather than from what is convenient to measure.

Every run records model, version, country, language, session state and date, and prompts are repeated in clean sessions so volatility is visible instead of hidden.

Entity and Source Consistency

One consistent set of facts about your company across your own site, company records, professional profiles, review and reference platforms and industry directories, so an assistant is not reconciling three versions of your own description.

Inconsistent entity data is a leading cause of assistants hedging or misstating what a company does.

Third-Party Authority by Destination Country

Trade publications, industry associations, standards bodies and reference sites in the market you sell into, because the large majority of AI citations point somewhere other than a brand's own site.

Delivered through our media release and digital PR service, scoped country by country rather than as one global push.

Indic-Language Panels Where They Earn Their Place

Hindi and Marathi panels written by native speakers rather than machine-translated from an English list, covering Devanagari script and the code-mixed forms real users type, with named Indian reviewers on anything published.

Retrieval in Indian languages is a documented engineering problem in its own right, and citation outcomes for Marathi queries have not been measured by anyone, so these panels are run as a test with a decision point rather than sold as a settled tactic.

PromptWatch Reporting

Mention rate, owned-source citation rate, citation share, recommendation rate, answer placement, factual accuracy, citation validity and stability, each defined and reported separately against a dated baseline.

Runs alongside our companion SEO service for Pune, because assistants still draw on indexed, crawlable content.

How We Report Citation, and What Should Disqualify Any Vendor

India has no standards body prescribing GEO metrics, and no survey establishes what Indian buyers currently accept as proof. That gap is exactly why the definitions below are written out rather than summarised into one score. Hold us to them, and hold anyone else you are evaluating to them too.

MetricExact definitionWhy it is not a ranking metric
Mention rateShare of eligible prompt runs in which the brand is named anywhere in the answer. An assistant can name a brand with no link at all, and regardless of its position in Google.
Owned-source citation rateShare of eligible runs containing at least one citation to a domain you own. This measures source attribution directly, not list position.
Citation shareCited URLs belonging to you divided by all cited URLs across the fixed panel. This measures competition between sources, not competition for a slot on a results page.
Recommendation rateShare of eligible runs in which the brand is explicitly recommended, shortlisted or compared favourably.Being mentioned is not the same as being recommended. A mention can be neutral or unfavourable.
Answer placementFirst recommendation, later recommendation, table inclusion, footnote only, or source only.Position inside a generated answer is a different variable from position in a list of links.
Factual accuracyShare of coded claims about your brand that match an approved fact base you sign off on.High visibility attached to wrong facts is a failure, not a result.
Citation validityShare of citations that actually support the claim they are attached to.A link can be present and still be irrelevant to the sentence it sits beside.
StabilityConsistency of outcomes across repeated clean-session runs of the same prompt.Models are probabilistic and change over time. One favourable run is not a state of the world.
AI referral sessionsSessions attributable to assistant domains or AI surfaces, where measurable.Reported separately and never merged with citation, because a citation frequently produces no click at all.

What should disqualify a vendor, including us. Reporting rankings as though they were citations. Refusing to disclose the prompt panel. Changing prompts after a baseline has been set. Merging plain mentions with linked citations into one number. Presenting screenshots without the raw responses behind them. Guaranteeing a model output. Quoting an India-specific traffic effect that is actually drawn from another market's data. Any one of these is a reason to stop the conversation.

Why Choose Us as Your GEO Company in Pune, India?

Measurement You Can Repeat, in the Markets Your Revenue Comes From

This service is built for Pune companies whose buyers sit outside India. We started publishing GEO methodology in 2023, before most of the category existed, and the thing we compete on is whether a result can be reproduced, not whether a slide looks impressive.

Southeast Asia Is Our Home Market

For a Pune exporter selling into Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia or Vietnam, how buyers there phrase questions and which sources they trust is not something we researched. It is where we work every day.

Every Result Traces Back to a Log

Model, version, country, language, session state and run date recorded for every execution, with raw responses and cited URLs kept for audit. If a number cannot be reproduced from the log, it does not go in the report.

We Name the Gaps in the Evidence

Whether location changes source nationality, and whether Marathi pages get cited in Marathi answers, have not been measured by anybody. We test those against your category instead of borrowing a confident-sounding claim from elsewhere.

One Shared Working Day

Jakarta runs 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of Pune and Bali 2 hours 30 minutes ahead, so prompt-panel reviews and correction workflows happen live rather than overnight.

Frequently Asked Questions About GEO and AEO in Pune, India

What is the difference between GEO, AEO and SEO, and do we need all three?

SEO earns a position in a list of links. AEO focuses on winning the single extracted answer. GEO earns a brand mention or a cited source inside a generated answer. They share a technical and content foundation, which is why assistants still draw on indexed, crawlable pages, but they are separate outcomes with separate measurements. A page can hold the first organic position and never be cited, and a page on the third page of results can be cited repeatedly. Most export-facing Pune firms need an integrated programme rather than three disconnected services.

Does schema markup or an llms.txt file get us cited?

No, and Google states this directly. Its guidance says that to be eligible as a supporting link in AI Overviews or AI Mode a page must be indexed and eligible to be shown with a snippet, and that there are no additional technical requirements. Google specifically names overfocusing on structured data as a mistake, says there is no special schema.org markup for these features, and says you do not need to create new machine-readable files, AI text files or markup. Accurate structured data is still worth having because it helps Google understand a page and supports rich-result eligibility. Anyone selling it to you as a citation guarantee is selling something Google has publicly contradicted.

Can you guarantee we get cited in ChatGPT or Google AI Overviews?

No. Model outputs are probabilistic and shift with model updates and retrieval changes, and Google states that meeting every requirement still does not mean a page will be crawled, indexed or served. What we commit to is the process: a versioned prompt panel agreed with you, a baseline captured before any work starts, consistent measurement across the assistants your buyers actually use, raw responses and cited URLs retained for audit, and a live demonstration on request. Google itself advises being wary of third-party tools that promise ranking success or claim to use internal Google metrics, and we hold ourselves to that same standard.

How do you measure success, and what is the reporting cadence?

Nine metrics reported separately rather than collapsed into one score: mention rate, owned-source citation rate, citation share, recommendation rate, answer placement, factual accuracy, citation validity, stability across repeated clean-session runs, and AI referral sessions where measurable. Each run records model, version, country, language, session state and date. Reporting runs against a dated baseline, and the change log connecting interventions to specific pages and third-party placements is part of the report rather than a separate conversation.

What would make us walk away from a GEO vendor?

Reporting rankings as though they were citations. Refusing to disclose the prompt panel. Changing prompts after a baseline has been set. Merging plain mentions with linked citations into a single number. Showing screenshots without the raw responses behind them. Guaranteeing a model output. Quoting an India-specific traffic effect that is actually drawn from another market's data. We publish this list because we expect to be measured against it too.

Is there a reliable figure for how often AI answers appear on Indian searches?

Not one that we would put in front of you as a prevalence rate. Published prevalence figures vary enormously depending on whether the study measures a broad query sample or a tracked keyword set, and none of the credible ones is India-specific. What we do have is a primary measurement of change: MIT researchers ran 24,000 queries across 243 countries, repeating identical queries in 2024 and 2025 so that shifts in user behaviour could not be mistaken for shifts in platform policy, and found India up 54%. That is a relative change between two years, and we label it as one.

Have Indian publishers lost traffic to AI answers, and does that affect us?

There is no credible India-specific measurement of it. The decline figures circulating widely were measured in other markets, and presenting them as Indian numbers is the exact error this page is built to avoid. What is measurable for an Indian company is a different thing entirely: whether your brand appears when a buyer asks an assistant about your category, and whether the sources behind that answer support what is being said. That is a citation question, not a traffic question, and it is the one we work on.

Does GEO work for Hindi or Marathi queries?

It is testable, not settled. Retrieval in Indian languages is a documented engineering problem in its own right, and content in Indian languages is thinly represented in the material these models were trained on. More to the point, nobody has published a study measuring whether well-structured Marathi pages actually get cited in Marathi answers or whether English sources carry the citation instead. We build native-written panels in Devanagari and the code-mixed forms people really type, run them as a test with a decision point, and pair them with equally well-structured English covering the same facts. Native reviewers sign off on anything we publish.

Does an assistant favour Indian sources for a user asking from India?

Unknown, and we will not pretend otherwise. No public controlled study holds prompt intent, model version, session state and account history constant while varying only location and language, then codes every cited URL by country. Until one exists, the honest answer is that this has to be tested against your own category and your own destination markets. That test is cheap to run and it is part of how we start an engagement.

Can we see a live citation check before signing anything?

Yes, and we would rather you asked. Send one representative buyer question from your category and the market you sell into. We run it across the assistants your buyers use, capture the responses with model, version, location, language and run date attached, and show you the sources behind the answer. Given how much of this market is sold on assertion, we treat a live check as a normal part of a first conversation rather than a special request.

How long before we see citation movement?

Practitioner consensus is that anything under roughly ninety days delivers an audit rather than measurable citation movement, because models need to recrawl and third-party authority takes time to land. We would rather set that expectation now than defend a shorter one later. Where an assistant retrieves live from the web, changes can surface sooner. Where an answer draws on a model's own trained knowledge, it takes considerably longer. We report those as separate situations rather than averaging them into one promised timeline.

How does India's DPDP framework affect prompt monitoring by an overseas team?

A prompt such as a request to shortlist suppliers in your category normally contains no personal data at all, so the core deliverable sits largely outside the heaviest obligations. The boundary is set by which fields are actually retained, not by what the service is called. Where a programme would ingest reviews, user-generated content, author names or user-level prompt logs, we contract as a processor with a defined purpose, pseudonymise before cross-border access and keep identifiers out of the panel unless they are genuinely necessary. The Rules were notified on 13 November 2025 with a staged commencement, and the cross-border provisions sit in the phase scheduled for 13 May 2027, with a proposed acceleration consulted on in January 2026 that has not been confirmed by gazette. We write contracts so that an earlier commencement does not require renegotiation.
